Full Description

The 25 inch 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map depicts two earthwork features at SS 7021 3804 and SS 7023 3808. [1] These are again depicted on the 25 inch 2nd Edition map but have been joined by two further earthworks, at SS 7025 3812 and possibly at SS 7021 3817. [2] These are not depicted on the 2018 MasterMap data, although they may still be extant. [3] The features may represent post-medieval quarrying remains. It is not clear whether the northerly features had simply been omitted from the 1st Edition map, or if they were not present at this time (which would suggest quarrying activity dating to the late 19th or early 20th Century).
