MEM24482 - Post-medieval quarry on Verney's Allotment (Monument)

A narrow quarry was cut at the southern edge of Verney's Allotment, close to the field boundary.

Full Description

A narrow cut quarry at SS 77453 34407, runs approximately east from the boundary, cutting into the slope. It's dimensions are approximately 30m long and up to 3m wide, maximum of 1.6m deep. Spoil heaps up to 0.6m high follow the northern and southern edges of the quarry cut. This and other quarries adjoining boundary almost certainly provided stone for the latter's construction. [1]
