Full Description

The site was subject to an archaeological watching brief in 2016 as part of groundworks associated with the construction of a vehicular access track. A ditch was exposed adajcent to an existing breach in a field boundary, extending parallel to the hedgebank. It measured 2.14 wide and 0.25 metres deep, with moderately steep sloping sides and a flattish base that cut through a mid greyish brown silty clay layer, representing tree root disturbance. The ditch contained a mixed mid reddish brown to dark greyish brown silty clay fill. No finds were recovered. Though undated, the ditch was believed to represent an associated ditch to the adjacent historic hedgebank and to be of probable medieval to post-medieval date. [1]
