Full Description

A guide post is marked on modern MasterMap data. [1] The signpost was visited in October 2015 and its condition assessed. It has SCC (Somerset County Council) repeated on the four sides of a pyramid finial. The attached fingers read: PORLOCK 1 MINEHEAD 5 1/2 FILTER STATION 1/2 HORNER 1/2 LUCCOMBE 1 1/2. [2] Photograph published in 1947 shows the post painted alternately black and white sited on the grassy triangle in the road junction near a tree with Honeysuckle Cottage in the background, apparently in the same position in 2015. Only one of the attached cast iron fingers appears to have survived in 2015 (PORLOCK 1 MINEHEAD 5 1/2) although in a different position, the other two fingers were recorded as of resin in 2015. In 1947 the fingers read (from the top): STOKE PERO 3 1/2 UNSUITABLE FOR MOTORS HORNER 1/2 LUCCOMBE 1 1/2 PORLOCK 1 MINEHEAD 5 1/2. [3]
