Full Description

As part of the Exmoor Mires Project, Cornwall Council Historic Environment Service were contracted to undertake a non-intrustive walkover survey of the proposed mire restoration area on Lanacombe, which included this site. Visible was a possible spread clearance cairn 3 to 4 metres in diameter. There is no apparent height to the feature but some stones are visible and probing reveals stone more widely under the thin grass and moss layer which closely defines the extent. The feature is crossed by a footpath and vehicle track. The feature is similar to MEM23210, which is located close to the northwest. [1] The Historic Environment Officer for the Exmoor Mires Project undertook a non-intrustive walkover survey of the proposed mire restoration area on Lanacombe, which included this site. Noted was an area of well defined vegetation change with some stones visible and more detected by probing. It is 3 to 4 metres in diameter but has no significant height. The feature may be a spread prehistoric clearance cairn, but is also possibly of natural origin. [2]
