MEM22614 - Undated surface stone on The Chains (Non-antiquity)

Summary

An arrangement of stones was noted during field investigation in 2012. This is likely a natural arrangement of stones in an area with abundant surface stone. This is not thought to be a cist.

Full Description

A possible stone lined cist was noted during a non intrustive walkover survey of the proposed mire restoration area on The Chains, undertaken by South West Archaeology as part of the Exmoor Mires Project. This falls within the general stony area MEM22612. [1] The Historic Environment Officer for the Exmoor Mires Project undertook a non intrustive walkover survey of the proposed mire restoration area on The Chains, which included this site. Noted was an arrangement of stones in an area with abundant surface stone (MEM22612). This feature is unlikely to be a cist. [2]
