Full Description
A post-medieval quarry was noted during a non-intrustive walkover survey of the proposed mire restoration area on Deer Park, undertaken by South West Archaeology as part of the Exmoor Mires Project. The quarry face was noted as being 3 to 4 metres high and adjacent to the narrowing head of a combe next to the Simonsbath road. The quarry was likely used to extract stone to build a causeway or bridge across the combe. [1] The Historic Environment Officer for the Exmoor Mires Project undertook a non-intrustive walkover survey of the proposed mire restoration area on Deer Park, which included this site. Noted was a quarry which is probably associated with construction of the adjacent road. [2]
