Full Description
The Historic Environment Officer for the Exmoor Mires Project undertook a non intrustive walkover survey of the proposed mire restoration area on Spooners, which included this site. An isolated, upright and earthfast stone was found situated on the upslope side of a drainage ditch. It has a slab like morphology and is composed of slate and quartz, measuring c. 0.7 metres by 0.2 metres by 0.2 metres. Its location, adjacent to a drainage ditch, makes a prehistoric origin unlikely, and it is most likely to be part of the spoil excavated from the ditch. [1]
