MEM22251 - The Royal Oak, Doverhay, Porlock (Building)

On the Tithe Map there is an inn next door to the Three Horse Shoes called the 'Somerset Inn', owned by Abraham Sparks junior. Probably the Royal Oak. D Corner's book includes a photograph showing the building standing next to the Three Horse Shoes before the latter was demolished. [1] The building is shown on both the 1st and 2nd ed. Ordnance Survey mapping as a public house. [2,3] The building presently [2014] has a tiled roof and is rendered. [4] The Royal Oak... survives, its twin rendered gables fronting the street; the left hand gable has a date plaque ‘A.H 1704’. [5]
