Full Description

"In 1832 a plot of land on the corner of West Street and St George's Street was bought. The shops and unfinished cottages on the site were incorporated into a new chapel and for some years the cause thrived encouraged by the conversion of Mrs Langdon, the personal maid of the two Miss Luttrells at the castle. With the revival of fortunes in the town and the generous interest of Mr George Luttrell in the church and school, Methodism lost ground. The chapel had to be rebuilt in 1878". [1] The original chapel is depicted on the Dunster Tithe Map at SS 9901 4357 and labelled 81. It is described as a chapel, owned and occupied by the Trustees of Wesleyan Chapel. [2]
