MEM21958 - The Guildhall Heritage Centre, Dulverton (Building)

The Guildhall Centre was previously two storey workshops, grouped around a central courtyard, with a wrap around frontage of painted stone with plank doors and mostly paired timber casement windows. Parts of the building date from the 18th and early 19th Century with later additions. [1] In the 17th Century, this building formed the stables, malthouse, courtyard and outbuildings to the Lamb Inn. By the late 19th Century it had in part become Germans Ironmongers, with the malthouse and outbuildings converted to four small cottages. The building was developed to form the Guildhall Heritage Centre in the 1980s-1990s. [2] A house opposite the present Town Hall was described as Guild Hall on a deed of 1776, but not in a deed of 1649, and there is no evidence that Dulverton had a guild, so this may be one of Sydenham's re-namings.
