A general stores (Benjamin Bayley) was succeeded by Ellerton's (formerly in the High Street), which was burnt out on August Bank Holiday 1922. The house is claimed as that of Reuben Huckaback in Blackmore's Lorna Doone. [1] The building is named 'Doone House'. [2] Bayleys became Ellertons after 1902. [3]
