MEM15600 - Undated charcoal burning platform in Embelle Wood (Monument)

Summary

An earthwork platform on the slopes of Embelle Wood is probably the remains of a charcoal burning platform. The date of the earthwork is uncertain.

Full Description

A charcoal burning platform in Embelle Wood, approximately 950 metres north-north-west of Broomstreet Farm. The platform is oval in shape and measures circa 5 metres long and 5 metres wide. The rear of the platform is possibly reveted and cut into the hillslope by about 0.7 metres and although eroded the front, downslope edge is built up to a height of between 0.3 and 0.6 metres. The site is in generally very good condition. [1]
