Full Description
An iron smelting site of uncertain date. The site was identified in a location downhill from Wilmersham Farm during the National Trust's archaeological survey of Horner Wood. The site consists of a surface scatter of slag, predominantly from smelting although a single fragment of smithing slag was also collected. It is suggested that the slag is a waste product from iron working within the former hamlet of Wilmersham, and which has tumbled downslope from a location close to the present farmstead. [1]
