MDE21785 - Prehistoric flint northwest of Caffyns Heaton Down (Monument)

A scatter of 18 pieces of worked flint, mostly derived from beach pebbles were recovered during groundworks for laying a water pipe in 2000. The flints were characteristic of a Mesolithic or early Neolithic date.

A scatter of 18 pieces of worked flint were recovered during groundworks for laying a water pipe in 2000. Part of the assemblage was derived from the easternmost of three shallow ditches orientated north-south 2.8m wide x 0.22m deep which were probably natural features. The flints were mainly derived from beach pebbles and the predominance of blade technology suggested the assemblage was of Mesolithic or early Neolithic date. [1]
