Full Description

No 3 Shaft, Bampfylde Mine. [1] A new and probably separate series of workings was opened on the western side of the hill in the mid 19th Century. Sunk on the brow of the hill, this is shown on the section of the 1868 inventory as being 60 fathoms or 360 feet deep. Shown on 1868 Ordnance Survey map, but apparently infilled by 1903, when the map was revised. The site is marked by disturbed ground. [2] Site of a small circular feature labelled 'Shaft' on the 25 inch 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map with a path to the east. [3] The shaft is no longer depicted on the 2nd Edition map. [4]
