Full Description
SS 8105 3039. An adit located to the southeast of Ridgway Cross. It has been driven into the southwest facing slopes close to the head of Triss Combe. The adit is well preserved and comprises an opening 1.2 metres wide and 1.3 metres high. This gives access to an arched passage 1.15 metres wide and 1.9 metres high cut into the stoney subsoil. Outside is a narrow gulley 0.4 metres deep running to a small spoil mound 0.4 metres high. The absence of spoil around the adit suggests that it is an exploratory feature associated with iron mining in the surrounding parish. [1] This record was enhanced as part of the National Record of the Historic Environment to Exmoor National Park Historic Environment Record data transfer project. [2]
