MDE12866 - Bronze Age burial cairn on Furzehill Common (Monument)

Summary

A probable Bronze Age burial cairn is visible as a heather and turf covered mound measuring 6 metres in diameter and 0.4 metres high. It has a central hollow which is probably the result of robbing but otherwise is well formed.

Full Description

SS 73717 44823. A stony mound, 6 metres in diameter and 0.4 metres high, probably a cairn. This heather and turf covered stony mound, is situated about 365 metres above Ordnance Datum on the northeast side of the plateau top of Furzehill Common. The ground slopes away very gently to the east. There is a slight central hollow, 1 metre in diameter and 0.2 metres deep, possibly the result of robbing. It is prominently situated and well formed and is most probably of prehistoric date. Surveyed at 1:2500.
