Site Event/Activity record EEM14961 - 2014: WB - Deer Park

Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by South West Archaeology Ltd. on peat cutting carried out for the creation of ditch blocks in Deer Park Field, south of Simonsbath. The ground works on site comprised the excavation of small areas of topsoil and peat to create ditch blockings as part of the mire restoration project. The cuttings were approximately 1m x 2m in size and ex cavated to a maximum depth of 0.4m. No archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were revealed during the groundworks. However, a possible standing stone (survey point 135) and a single flake of partially corticated struck flint debitage with flake scars (survey point 134) were identified during the course of the survey (see Figures 2, 5 & 6). The standing stone has been assigned the HER No: MSO6889.
