Date

Description
Monitoring was maintained during groundworks associated with the provision of a new telecommunication mast. Ground levels along the line of the new 3 metre wide access road from the existing track were reduced by 100 to 200 mm at the southern end. Only at the northern end, where c. 300 mm of soil was removed, was the underlying stony silt subsoil fully exposed. The area for the new compound had been reduced in level by 0.6 to 1 metre during previous quarrying activity. Groundworks exposed only the underlying geology. The cable trench for the mast was also excavated within the previously reduced area. No archaeological deposits or remains were exposed and no artefacts recovered.
