Description
In June 2016 an ENPA archaeologist conducted monitoring of a trench 16.70 metres long between SS 71190 49709 and SS71203 49701, near to the Poets Shelter at the Valley of Rocks. The trench cut through a hedge bank shown on the Tithe Map, the fabric of which was noted to be an earth bank with a pitched stone facing on each side narrowing to a pitched stone top. The only find was apiece of modern transfer printed pottery, which was discarded. The topsoil was noted to reach a depth of 10 centimetres.
