Description

A geophysical survey was undertaken by volunteers and students of the University of Leicester as part of Dig Porlock events. The site was subject to soil resistance survey and magnetometer survey as part of the activities. The resistance survey demonstrated that the line of the stone row or avenue follows a what is most likely a peat filled hollow (either natural or perhaps marking the line of an eroded track). The survey did not show any structures within the hut platforms, but there may be an associated linear boundary or enclosure. Other features noted are likely modern trackways and small cairns. Crossing the entire survey area (northeast to southwest) is likely the remains of a fence or hedge. Results of the magnetometer survey include some anomalies which represent iron or shrapnel. A possible rectangular enclosure was also noted.
