NORTH MOLTON FLYDON HILL SS 73 SW 10/153 Lower Flydon Farmhouse - GV II Farmhouse, now divided. Mid C17, substantially enlarged in the mid to late C19. C17 range with coursed stone rubble to ground floor, rendered cob above to first floor and gable-ended corrugated-asbestos roof (probably formerly thatched). C17 stone square stack, that to left with top rebuilt in C19 red brick. C19 addition of uncoursed stone rubble with red-brick dressings to openings and slate roof (with C20 bitumen covering), gable-ended to right and hipped to left. Brick stacks, and truncated external stone end stack to left. Plan and development: C17 two-room plan, facing south-east (ground falls to left). End stacks, integral to right and external to left. Larger left-hand room. Large C19 addition to left, set forward; consisting of 2 rooms to left divided by stack, entrance and staircase hall to right (kitchen to left) passage to rear and lean-to addition at rear. Two storeys, with one-storey lean-to addition at rear of C17 part. Exterior: C17 range with slightly set-back front wall to left. Two first-and ground-floor windows to centre; all late C20 two-light wooden casements. Small ground-floor fire window to left with C19 two-light wooden casement. C20 four panelled half-glazed door to right with late C20 lean-to porch. Straight joint between ground-floor windows (possibly former doorway). C19 addition to left with 4- bay front; late C20 casements (mostly top-hung) in C19 openings with brick jamb and flat-arched heads. C19 six-panelled door in recessed porch to right (3 beaded-flush lower panels and 3 recessed upper panels) with margin-light rectangular overlight. Two-storey lean-to at rear. Interior of C17 range: Right-hand ground-floor room (present kitchen has C17 chamfered cross beam with stepped stops). C17 open stone fireplace to right with blocked bread oven and chamfered wooden lintel north scroll stops. C17 winder staircase (partly rebuilt) at rear of stack. Seat in front window left-hand ground- floor room has C17 deep-chamfered spine beam and hall beams, with stepped runout stops. Cupboard to left of fireplace has old boarded door with strap hinges. Two- bay C17 roof with pairs of roughly-chamfered purlins. Interior of C19 addition to left with largely complete fixtures and fittings, including staircase with stick balusters and turned foot newel post, and blocked fireplace in kitchen with wooden lintel.
