Listed Building: SYDENHAM HOUSE (1247926)

SS9127 DULVERTON HIGH STREET (North side) 15/75 Sydenham House (formerly listed as Sydenham House, Back street) 6.4.59 - GV II Farmhouse, now dwelling with later buildings abutting either end. C16, possibly earlier, refenestrated late C17, altered internally c1820, roof raised and partly refenestrated mid C20. Random rubble local stone, shallow pitched slate roof, applied half-timbered frieze below eaves, stone stacks right gable end, between second and third bays left, and large lateral stack to right of entrance. Plan: probably kitchen at east end separated from upper end by carriage way now with inserted stair, Two storeys 4: 1 bays, first floor late C20 cruciform plastic leaded windows rising to applied half-timbered frieze, ground floor left tripartite 12-pane sash window, 16-pane sash window to left of 6-panel door, flat roofed pentice porch on shaped brackets, façade unlit on ground floor to right of lateral stack. Rear elevation, evidence formerly 4-bay with late C17 cruciform leaded windows rising through eaves, one remaining after roof raised. 2 coeval 2-light mullioned and transomed leaded windows on ground floor. Interior 2 pairs of jointed cruck trusses visible in west end bedroom with remains of plain C16 moulded cornice, chamfered beams with step and runout stops visible in kitchen, all grates modern, early C19 stick stair with cut string, coeval plaster frieze in west end room, the original stairs probably rose against the stack.
